Q1 Quarterly Intelligence Report
Dynadot’s Q1 2026 Quarterly Intelligence Report provides an interesting snapshot of domain registration activity, even though the second quarter has already ended. Some of the figures may have shifted since the report was published, but the data still highlights several notable patterns in the domain market.
Dynadot reported a 40% year-over-year increase in registrations during the first quarter. The strongest growth came from several newer or discounted extensions, including .digital, .info, .pro, and .sbs. Despite the growth of these alternatives, .com remained the most popular extension on the platform, with registrations increasing by 9% compared with the previous year.
Geographically, Asia represented the largest share of Dynadot’s registrations, accounting for 46% of the total. Europe contributed 24%, while North America represented 23%. Growth rates differed considerably between these regions: registrations from Asia increased by 5%, compared with 147% growth in Europe and 63% in North America. These figures suggest that registration activity is expanding at different rates across major markets, although broader industry data can vary by extension and region.
The report also distinguishes between domain investors and retail customers, revealing different preferences beyond .com. Among investors, .top ranked second, followed by .info and .vip. Retail customers showed a different pattern, with .digital and .sbs following .com. The distinction illustrates how domain extension preferences can depend on whether domains are being acquired for investment purposes or for direct business and personal use.
The aftermarket remained heavily concentrated around .com domains. They represented 77% of Dynadot’s aftermarket activity in Q1 and recorded 54% year-over-year growth. The .org extension followed at 5%, showing the continued dominance of .com in secondary-market transactions.
