Tiranga

The journey of the Indian national flag was not an overnight development but the result of years of struggle, design, and evolution. Before independence, various versions of flags were used by different groups and during different movements. The first national flag is believed to have been hoisted in 1906 in Calcutta, featuring three horizontal bands of green, yellow, and red. Over time, designs kept changing until 1921, when Pingali Venkayya, an Indian freedom fighter, proposed a design that eventually evolved into the present-day Tiranga. After several revisions, the current version of the flag was adopted on July 22, 1947, just before India’s independence.
